Welcome to Eluna's Author Series: A set of read-aloud videos and accompanying author interview questions to further support youth affected by grief or a family member’s substance use disorder. This video project aims to elevate select picture books in a user-friendly format to foster hope & healing in the home, classroom, and community.
In this Author Series Read Aloud, we welcome author Jackie Schuld to read Grief is a Mess.
The Memory Story Cards activity provides youth with the opportunity to learn about their person by asking questions and hearing stories shared by grown-ups who knew the person who died well. This can be especially meaningful when the youth was particularly young when the person died and/or they could benefit from support in developing secondary memories cultivated by reminiscing with stories & pictures.
The Memory Beads activity can be done individually, in a group, or with a family. While creating the bracelet, participants can reflect on their relationship with the person who died and share memories with others. The bracelet then serves as a tangible connection to the person being remembered.
